What is MySecureDeposit?MySecureDeposit is a simple way to securely send and hold rental deposits. Instead of transferring money directly to a landlord or stranger, we hold the deposit using Stripe — a trusted global payment processor — and only release the funds after you confirm everything is okay.
-
How does it work? You fill out a short form, pay your deposit + a €5 handling fee, and we hold the funds until move-in. Once everything is confirmed, we release the funds to the landlord.
-
Why should I use this instead of sending money directly?Because rental deposit scams are extremely common — especially in group chats and peer-to-peer deals. Using MySecureDeposit adds a layer of protection. We act as the neutral middle party to reduce risk and give both sides peace of mind.
-
How much does it cost?We charge a flat €5 fee per transaction, paid by the renter at the time of deposit. Everything else goes to the landlord once the deposit is released.
-
What is Stripe, and why do you use it?Stripe is a leading global payment platform used by companies like Amazon, Google, Shopify, and Airbnb. We use Stripe because: Your payment details are never stored on our servers Stripe is fully PCI-compliant and handles all security All funds are encrypted and monitored Stripe also verifies recipient identities to reduce fraud Using Stripe makes the transaction safer than direct bank transfers or PayPal.
-
Can the landlord or renter cancel the transaction?Yes — either party can request to cancel before the deposit is released. If both sides agree, we refund the renter (minus the Stripe processing fee). If there’s a dispute, we review both sides before deciding whether to refund or release the deposit.
-
When do you release the deposit to the landlord? We typically release funds after the renter confirms that the move-in went smoothly. If no confirmation is received, we release funds automatically after a set time (usually 7–14 days), unless a dispute is opened.
-
What if something goes wrong with the rental? If the landlord disappears, the place doesn’t exist, or there’s serious fraud — the renter can open a dispute. We’ll pause the release and contact both parties to review the situation.
-
Is this a legal escrow service? No — we’re not a licensed escrow company. We are a facilitator using Stripe, which allows us to securely hold and release funds. Our service is meant to reduce scam risk and add accountability, especially in informal rental markets like WhatsApp and Facebook groups.
-
What info do you collect? We collect: The renter’s name and email The landlord’s name and email Deposit amount and purpose Property reference All payment data is handled by Stripe. We do not store your card or bank details.
-
Can I use this for anything other than rental deposits?Yes! While we focus on rentals, you can use MySecureDeposit for: Sublets Furniture sales with strangers Holding payments before meetups or services
-
Is this available in every country?Right now, we support renters and landlords with European bank accounts (SEPA zone). Card payments are accepted globally, but payouts to landlords must be within supported countries.
-
What happens if the landlord never signs up or accepts the funds? If the landlord doesn’t complete their payout setup, the funds remain held. If they never claim the deposit, we will contact you and refund it after a waiting period.
-
I still have questions. Who do I contact? If you have any questions, issues, or concerns, we’re here to help. You can email us any time at info@mysecuredeposit.com or message us directly through WhatsApp. We're a small team focused on building trust in rentals, and we take every message seriously.
-
Do I need to make an account? No. Our process is streamlined — no account or login required.
-
What payment methods are accepted? We accept Multibanco and Revolut Pay. For those who prefer, you can also transfer via IBAN.
-
Do I need to add a €5 handling fee?Yes. The €5 handling fee must be added to your total payment.
-
How do I know how much to pay?Your total should be: Deposit amount + €5 handling fee + any payment method fee (if using Multibanco or Revolut Pay).
-
How do I prove I paid?Send your payment confirmation or screenshot to info@mysecuredeposit.com. This helps us verify and process your payment quickly.
-
Do I need to include a reference in my payment?Yes. Please include your full name and property address as a reference in the payment so we can match it to your submission.
-
What are the Multibanco fees?Multibanco charges 2.95% per transaction. You must add this on top of your deposit and €5 fee. Example: If your deposit is €500 → add €14.75 (2.95%) + €5 → Pay €519.75 total.
-
What are the Revolut Pay fees?Revolut Pay currently charges 2.5% per transaction. You must also add this fee. Example: If your deposit is €500 → add €12.50 (2.5%) + €5 → Pay €517.50 total.
-
Can I avoid those fees?Yes. Use the IBAN transfer option for a lower or no transaction fee, depending on your bank. This option still has the €5 handling fee.
-
Can I pay via IBAN?Yes. Full IBAN details are provided on our IBAN Payment page. Simply make the transfer manually and send proof to info@mysecuredeposit.com.
-
How do you protect my money? All funds are held securely in our business Stripe account or directly via bank transfer. Funds are only released upon verification of move-in or mutual agreement.
-
What if my landlord refuses to use MySecureDeposit? You can suggest the service as a safer alternative. If they decline, it’s up to you to decide if you still want to proceed directly.
-
Do I need to do anything after sending the deposit?Just send proof to info@mysecuredeposit.com and we’ll handle the rest. We’ll reach out to the landlord as needed.
-
How does a landlord receive the deposit? We’ll contact the landlord before the tenant moves in to confirm everything. Once verified, we’ll send the deposit to the landlord's bank account.
-
What if there’s a dispute after move-in?Once funds are released to the landlord, they cannot be recalled. We recommend both sides agree and document everything clearly beforehand.
